Web Strategies #5
How Giving Away Part of What You Know
Can Bring You More Clients
Many business owners assume people don't
want read a lot of text on a home page or web site.
They throw up a few bullet points to outline
what they have to offer figuring web surfers don't
want to be bogged down with details. That outline
might be fine as a lead-in, but visitors to your site
will take the time to read about you and
your business if it is presented in the right way.
Most people who take the time to find your site and
look around do so because they want in-depth information.
For the most part, the more people know about you the more they will
want to work with you. Visitors to your site
are often reading to learn if your service can help
them with a particular problem they have. Some only
want information on their particular problem, but
others will want as much detail about you as you can
give them. Either way, if you are thorough in explaining
what you do to your prospects and how you do it, people
gain confidence and get comfortable with you. By giving away some information you will
attract more clients. If you write articles
that share your knowledge, people perceive you as
an expert. Potential clients will come to appreciate
the valuable information you’I've provided and
will think of you first when they are ready to put
some money into their effort. There will always be
those who use the information you provide without
becoming clients. But even with these people, they
will bookmark your site and may end up clients after
all. The more you can demonstrate to people that you
have what it takes to help them, the more likely they
are to call you.
Another advantage to putting a lot of information
on your web site is that prospects that do call you
after reading your web site are more qualified and
easier to close. They trust you, are appreciative
of the generosity you have shown towards them and
already have determined that you have a solution to
their problems. For example, clients and subscribers
who have read our newsletter articles about search
engines know we can and want to work with them on
search engine placement.
By writing about what you know, you are
also educating your future clients and attracting
clients who share your point of view. You
may even save yourself from explaining certain information
over and over again. We find the more we write about
small business web sites needing to have more information
than corporate web sites, the more clients we attract
who want that kind of site for their small business.
In depth content about you and your business
as well as two or three articles covering topics from
your area of professional knowledge can help you attract
more clients. The content of your web site
should demonstrate that you understand the needs of
your clients and have a step by step process for helping
them. You want those you can help to feel that the
content was written with them in mind. We've also
discovered that the more we write about web topics
and our services, the easier it becomes to talk about
them to new prospects.
Writing for your web site can bring success
to your business by establishing you as an expert,
generating good will, educating your clients and prospects
and making others more confident in your ability to
help them.
