Karen and Tod's website book, The Almost Everything
Guide for Newbies and Non-Techies, gives the reader a comprehensive
yet easy-to-understand overview of what's involved in creating a website.
The book is very friendly in tone and at the same time, inspiring. My
favorite part of the book is the Bonus Checklist at the end of the ebook. The Checklist
breaks down the process of creating a website into distinct manageable
steps. Two thumbs up!

I just wanted to let you know that I greatly enjoyed your web design book. It's full
of one-liner tidbits that are really helpful and to the point. The nuggets
of advice and information are well worth the short time it takes to read.
Thanks!

I just read The Almost Everything Website Guide
for Newbies and Non-Techies. This great website book is packed with useful information in bite-size pieces. Got
two minutes? Sure, everyone can find a couple of minutes, whether waiting
on hold with a vendor, or those last few minutes of the day after the kids
are in bed and you have some time to relax before retiring yourself.
Almost every section in this web site book takes only 2 minutes
to read even if you're not a speed reader. The whole book can be
read in an hour. Useful sections like, "How much does a website cost?" and "How long does it
take to put up?" are on the minds of every business owner who is considering
a website. Great tips include how to avoid the pitfalls of using the
wrong kind of hosting service, how to choose a website name, and bringing
more traffic to your website. Highly recommended reading!

I was delighted to discover that the title The
Almost Everything Website Guide for Newbies and Non-Techies goes
absolutely to the heart of the content. After a brief introduction
the very first section of this gem of a book is titled “What is a Website?”.
I knew this book was for me! Although I formulated a plan not to be
spotted reading the book in public, I felt a great sense of relief
that after 52 easy to read pages I would finally be able to get on
with the business of clearly defining and establishing an internet
presence for my business. After the first section, we are lead quickly
but with great respect through such content as “Why a Website?”, “What
are the Benefits of a Website?”, “What does a Website Cost”,
and “How Long Does It Take To Put Up A Website?”. And all of this
in just 3 pages! Bravo, Karen and Tod. Thank you for the courtesy of
answering the questions some of us were scared to let anyone know we
needed help with. One suggestion though, scratch over the “Almost” from
the title using that fake chalk look--give yourselves the credit due!

I am impressed by the content and flow of this short Website
Guide for Newbies and Non-Techies. In the past I haven't wanted to read about
website material because I thought it would be boring and nothing
I would understand or be interested in. But after reading this I have changed
my mind.
I particularly, liked the section on bringing traffic to your website. I
have found that it does take alot more than passing the word around about
your website or creating business cards. I learned that there are quick and
easy ways to help market your site. Such as creating a short description
of your site and having your website professional put that in the description
meta-tag, or by simply submitting your site to key search engines
and directories. I think that marketing is a very important part of a website
and sometimes with all the technology that goes into a website,
the marketing is overlooked.
I also like the glossary at the end of the book, I found it very useful
and helpful to look up words and technology I was not familiar
with. I highly recommend this short and information packed book to
anyone. Thank you!

The Almost Everything Website Guide
for Newbies and Non-Techies

Setting Up a New Website? Working with a Web Designer?
If you are new to the Web, or uncomfortable with technical stuff,
building your first website can be overwhelming:
- At best, you can lose time and sleep
over the countless important decisions--even with a professional web designer.
- At worst, you can lose 1000’s
of dollars because you either give up on a website altogether,
or make costly mistakes.
The Almost Everything Website Guide for
Newbies and Non-Techies 2008 bundles together the technical and
marketing advice web
designers Tod Abbott and Karen Nierlich share with their clients.
After reading The Almost Everything Website Guide—about 2 hours
of your time—you'll have:
- a basic understanding of domain names,
hosting, websites, photos, and traffic; what they are, what to do and what NOT to do
- 5
simple criteria that will help you pick a web designer who is
a good fit for your personality, industry and your web project
- a
step-by-step checklist for your WHOLE web project including all
the technical and marketing aspect.
Why do newbies and non-techies
make so many costly mistakes? Often it's because they don't know
enough about websites to know what questions to ask or where
to start. When they do try to read
up on something they find a lot of "free" but confusing
information and misinformation on the web. Finally, their technical phobias can inhibit their ability
to learn in this area.
We are Karen Nierlich and Tod Abbott of Almost Everything
Communications, an A-Z Web Design Firm. We’ve been helping small business clients
for over 7 years with custom websites, shopping carts, online payments,
domain names, hosting, search engine optimization and much more.
Our previous experience as teachers, dedication to helping
others, and our experience as web designers makes us uniquely qualified to
demystify the key technical aspects of building a website. In our Guide
for Newbies and Non-Techies each technical aspect—like hosting, shopping carts,
spam, email marketing, traffic—gets a 2 to
5-minute treatment. By
explaining essential information in short, snappy
segments, we make it easy-to-read and easy-to-grasp.
The Almost Everything Website Guide for Newbies and
Non-Techies 2008 is now available in the US and internationally. It
is the “must
have” tool for entrepreneurs who want to make the right decisions
the first time when setting up domain names, hosting, a website, shopping
cart or a merchant account. The book comes with a unconditional one
year money back guarantee.
